My Dear Friends
Leaders For the Next Phase
There is arguably no more abrupt words in Scripture than what God said to Joshua “Moses, my servant is dead” (Josh. 1:2)! But what immediately follows is the Lord’s command for the new leader to ready the people and to cross over into the highly anticipated Promised Land.
It has become clear to me over my past 16 years of involvement at the seminary that the Lord is constantly raising up new leaders not so much to simply replace the previous, but to continue the good work already begun. Our new year was thus greeted with expectations of new opportunities! Following a wonderful year focussing on our 40th anniversary celebrations, we recognised that 2014 would be a new year with some significant personnel changes due to colleagues who were retiring.
We formally welcomed and inducted Dr Paul Hartwig as senior lecturer and welcomed, ordained and inducted Rev Marius De Villiers as Foundation Director and lecturer. It was also though with sadness that we received the resignation of Rev Garth Aziz who has taken up a position at UNISA, but praise the Lord for an able replacement in Rev Clayton Alexander. It is an absolute blessing to see how the Lord has provided by means of folk who are part of the seminary’s own alumni! It is also evidence that the process of leadership development is coming full circle as our own students are eventually returning as “faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2) in the seminary context.
